Our Family of Charitable Funds

Contributions may be made, and are gratefully accepted, at any time to any one of the charitable funds administered by the Community Foundation. They may be mailed to our office or immediate donations can be made on-line through the Foundation’s secure website at www.cfoc-ny.org.

NEW! The Ashley and Sierra Memorial Foundation
To honor and celebrate the lives of two best friends who lost their life together in a car crash in 2004, the families of Ashley Lynn Morgan and Sierra Lynn Cerrone created this fund which has been supported by many friends and family members. This fund provides scholarships to graduating students who reside within the territorial limits of the Monticello Central School District and exhibit well-rounded scholarship and vocational aptitude geared to the service of others and the ever-changing needs of society. The Lillian J. Bauer Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created through a bequest, this fund will memorialize and celebrate the life of Port Jervis resident Lillian J. Bauer through scholarships awarded at Port Jervis High School. Click here to make a donation!

Ian Bennett

Ian C. Bennett/Situation Cares Memorial Fund
This memorial fund was created by the co-workers, friends and family of Ian Bennett who tragically lost his life in a pedestrian accident. This scholarship is awarded to high school students in Orange County who demonstrate a passion for the arts, in the form of design, music and/or performing arts. Click here to make a donation!

Michelle Renee Bratton

Michelle Renee Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created to celebrate the life of Michelle Renee Bratton who tragically lost her life on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attacks. This fund provides a scholarship to a young woman graduating from Pine Bush High School who, like Michelle, is a member of the National Honor Society and either an athlete on the women’s swimming and diving team or a member of chorus. The Ronnie Honigsbaum
-Caplan-Bensley Fund
The goal of the Ronnie Honigsbaum-Caplan-Bensley Fund is to provide emergency assistance to high achieving individuals who have no other or limited sources of funds. It is the hope of the fund that once the recipients have achieved their educational and financial independence they will raise additional money for the fund or make donations to help self-perpetuate this fund. Carly Sigelbaum

The Carly Fund
Created to celebrate the life of Carly Marie Sigelbaum who tragically lost her life on October 17, 2008 as a way to keep Carly’s love for others alive and vibrant. This fund provides scholarships to graduating students from Newburgh Free Academy where Carly would have graduated in 2017, and grants to schools or nonprofits organizations that focus on “random acts of kindness.” Click here to make a donation!

Chester Kiwanis Scholarship Fund
Created by Chester Kiwanis for Chester Academy students. Grants will be awarded to college bound students who meet certain GPA, educational and other requirements. Click here to make a donation!

David T. Cocks

NEW! David T. Cocks Walden Savings Bank Scholarship Fund
The David T. Cocks Walden Savings Bank Scholarship Fund has been
established to celebrate the life and honor the memory of David T. Cocks.  On June 19, 2011, David T. Cocks, President of Walden Savings Bank, passed away suddenly.  He was a man of great character, a devoted family man and friend to many, who truly made a difference in the lives of those he touched.   Whether as President of Walden Savings Bank or in his many volunteer roles, he exemplified the definition of character and left a legacy of service and good work.  This scholarship will be awarded to one studen within the Bank’s Branch Territory.  Applications may be picked up in the Guidance Deparment of each of the following schools:  Chapel Field Christian School; Cornwall Central School District; Florida Union Free School District; Goshen Central School District; John S. Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created to celebrate the life of Scott F. Coen who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who is planning a two- or four-year college course of study in criminal justice and has participated in an athletic program at Pine Bush High School. Edward C. Moulton, Jr. Cornwall Alumni Scholarship Fund
Created by former Cornwall Mayor Edward Moulton to provide a scholarship to a graduating student of Cornwall High School who has by his or her conduct exemplified community services. Click here to make a donation!

Justin T. Dimino

NEW! The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by Justin’s family to honor and memorialize Justin who passed away suddenly on January 9, 2011 at the age of 16. Justin was in his junior year and was the starting defensive back for the Championship Crusader Football Team at Monroe-Woodbury High School at the time of his passing. Through The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund a scholarship will be awarded annually, beginning in June 2012, the year Justin would have graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating member of the varsity football team at Monroe-Woodbury High School who has achieved a B average or better. Click here to make a donation!

Corinne Feller

Corinne Feller Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created by Corinne’s parents, Ron and Anita Feller, to celebrate the life of Corinne, who passed away at age 18 from ovarian cancer. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Valley Central High School of high moral character who will be attending an institution of higher learning, and who, like Corinne, was an active member of at least one interscholastic sports team through his/her senior year, demonstrated leadership skills, and actively advocates concern for the less fortunate. The FF (Firefighter) Thomas J. Foley Memorial Scholarship Fund

John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship Fund – Walden Savings Bank (WSB)
Established by Walden Savings Bank and friends of John D. Garrison as a lasting tribute to the former President of Walden Savings Bank. This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors in both Valley Central High School and Wallkill High School to students who are of good character, exhibit community involvement, and be service-oriented who plan to study Business or Finance. FF Denis P. Germain

The FF (Firefighter) Denis P. Germain Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created by the family of FF Denis P. Germain to honor the this 33 year-old New York City Firefighter with Ladder 2 who perished on September 11, 2001. Although he spent his working hours in the canyons of Mid-town Manhattan, he spent his free time in the winter on the ski slopes training high school racing teams and actively participated in an annual downhill race at Hunter Mountain for teams of firefighters. This fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating male and female student at Suffern Senior High School who is also a member of the Suffern Senior High School Ski Team. Caitlin M. Hammaren Memorial Foundation and Arts Institute Fund
Inspired by Caitlin’s love of the Arts and created following Caitlin’s senseless death on the morning of April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech, this Fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating student of Minisink High School and makes grants in the areas of arts education, culinary arts, and other cultural programs. Keith B. Hayes

Keith B. Hayes Foundation
Created by Keith’s family and many friends, this scholarship is awarded to students at Ramapo College of New Jersey who are afflicted with similar medical and physical challenges as Keith. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that conduct research related to muscular and skeletal myopathy, muscular dystrophy, as well as heart disease. Grants are also made to support Rockland Independent Living Center in Nanuet and Jawonio in New City. Click here to make a donation!

Hudson Valley Tuskegee Airmen Endowment Fund
This Fund will distribute scholarships to outstanding graduating high school students throughout the region. Recipients will be selected through the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen. Click here to make a donation!

Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz

Grants from this fund are used to support nonprofit organizations. The fund also awards the Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz Business award and the Dr. Morton I. Blackman Memorial Award at Valley Central High School; and the Edward Edsall Award and the Lillian & Meyer Jacobowitz Award at Wallkill Central High School. Click here to make a donation!

Alison Klepper

NEW! Alison Klepper Memorial Fund
Created by Fred and Mary Ann Klepper as a way to honor and celebrate their daughter Alison. In 2003, at just 23 years old, Alison was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. Alison was a talented artist and photographer as well as an accomplished skier, snowboarder, surfer and horsewoman. During her summer breaks from Warwick High School and Alfred University, she worked as a wrangler and trail guide on Montauk Long Island, New York. Alison also raised two seeing eye dogs. Alison faced adversity, namely bi-polar disorder, but she never gave up and always looked forward to her next challenge. Alison’s greatest talent was helping others in distress, both people and animals. This fund awards a scholarship at Warwick Valley High School to a graduating senior and to an Orange-Ulster BOCES student who plans to pursue higher education and major in photography, equine studies, graphic arts or media arts. Created by friends, family, and colleagues of Orange County Legislator Spencer McLaughlin in honor of his long-term commitment to community service in Orange County, this fund awards a scholarship at SUNY Orange annually. Click here to make a donation!

Created by colleagues of Washingtonville teacher Mike Purcell who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Anthony C. Quinn Memorial Fund
Created by family and friends of Anthony C. Quinn, a beloved teacher, swim coach, and alumnus of the Warwick Valley High School who passed away tragically from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Rescue 3 Fallen Heroes 9/11 Scholarship Fund
Created by September 11th widows and family members in honor and memory of FDNY firefighters Thomas Foley, Thomas Gambino, Ray Meisenheimer, Christopher Blackwell, Don Regan, Gerry Schrang, and Joseph Spor who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This fund awards a scholarship to children of any Rescue 3 firefighter who are survivors of a qualified disaster, with special consideration given to children of firefighters who were assigned to Rescue 3 on September 11, 2001. Dorothy Bronson Wicker Re Memorial Art Scholarship Fund
Created in memory of this beloved artist, writer, teacher and historian by her daughter, Sandy Leonard, who is a board member of the Community Foundation. John Christopher Smith Scholarship Fund
Created by the family of John Christopher Smith, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident, to celebrate John Christopher’s life and honor his memory. This fund is part of the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund. The fund awards a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who plans to attend a four-year college, and who, like John, is planning a course of study in Civil Engineering, Land Use Planning, Real Estate, Surveying or Business. The E. Bash Soderlund and Barbara Soderlund (WUCM) Mentoring Fund
Created by Sandra Soons, Vassar College Class of 1959, and Women’s University Club member to provide an annual mentoring grant to a woman 21 years of age or older returning to the classroom at SUNY Orange. This Fund was established to memorialize Sandra’s mother, E. Bash Soderlund, and her step-mother, Barbara Soderlund, both of whom attended the University of Nebraska. Click here to make a donation!

Joshua Stamm

Joshua Stamm Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created by his family and friends to memorialize Joshua who was an Eagle Scout with Troop 63 in Goshen, a member of the 105th Air National Guard’s Young Champions, an avid skier, music fan and baseball player. Joshua participated in countless wheelchair road races, including several Orange Classics and The Special Olympics at West Point. A scholarship is awarded annually to the Goshen High School graduating student who demonstrates qualities of determination, caring, compassion, and an independent spirit, and who, despite a disability, was able to excel and will attend college. Washingtonville 5 World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial Scholarship Fund
Created by family, friends, neighbors, and fellow firefighters, this scholarship fund was established to honor the five FDNY firefighters who lived in Washingtonville (Dennis Devlin, Glenn Perry, Mark Whitford, Gerald Nevins, and Robert Hamilton) who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Frederick B. and Dorothy A. Wildfoerster Fund

Created by the family of Isidore “Stitch” and Ethel Wittenberg, to honor their memory, this fund provides an award to a graduating student athlete from Pine Bush High School who demonstrates civic duty and responsibility of the highest degree on and off the athletic field. NEW! The Michael Ryan Zodda Foundation

Michael Ryan Zodda

The Michael Ryan Zodda Foundation was created to honor and memorialize Michael, who passed away on July 2, 2010, at the age of 25. Through the Michael Ryan Zodda Foundation, a research fellowship will be awarded annually to a Columbia University Medical Student. The Michael Ryan Zodda Fellow will exhibit Michael’s talents, ambitions, and drive. This fellowship is intended to provide mentorship, financial support, and an opportunity to advance the fellow’s knowledge in the areas of Arteriovenous Malformation, Cerebral Vascular Diseases, and Blood Disorders. The Michael Ryan Zodda Fellow will, in turn, carry on this research and provide future mentorship to future fellows. Click here to make a donation!

Established by nonprofit organizations to serve as a permanent endowment for their programs and operations.

Created by the forward-thinking boards of each agency represented below, agency endowment funds are established to create a vehicle for immediate and planned gifts that will support their programs, operations and provide for their long-term sustainability.

Established “to forever celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, a German immigrant who settled in the Hudson Valley in 1950. Her death on January 20, 2010 was not an ending, but through this fund, a continuance of her thoughtfulness for and generosity to others.” This fund will provide grants to local nonprofit organizations.
