Our Family of Charitable Funds

Contributions may be made, and are gratefully accepted, at any time to any one of the charitable funds administered by the Community Foundation. They may be mailed to our office or immediate donations can be made on-line through the Foundation’s secure website at www.cfoc-ny.org.

Support deserving young people and other students realize their dreams of higher education or career training.

NEW Anonymous Scholarship Fund #1 Grants from the Anonymous Scholarship Fund #1 will be used to support students who demonstrate financial need, are in good academic standing and are identified and recommended by the educational institution.

The Ashley and Sierra Memorial Foundation To honor and celebrate the lives of two best friends who lost their life together in a car crash in 2004, the families of Ashley Lynn Morgan and Sierra Lynn Cerrone created this fund which has been supported by many friends and family members. The Lillian J. Bauer Memorial Scholarship Fund This fund was established in memory of Lillian J. Ian C. Bennett/Situation Cares Memorial Fund This memorial fund was created by the co-workers, friends and family of Ian Bennett who tragically lost his life in a pedestrian accident. NEW! The Matthew R. Bertholf Scholarship FundMatthew R. Bertholf Scholarship Fund This fund was established to honor and remember a remarkable young man, Matthew “Matty” Bertholf, who was the epitome of what it meant to live in and embrace Sullivan County.  This Fund will award scholarships to graduating seniors of the Tri-Valley Central School District who plan to continue their education in the fields of trades or applied technology. To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here to download an application. Samuel Beytin Fallsburgh Central Community Scholarship Fund  The fund provides scholarships to graduating students at Fallsburg Central School District who have been accepted and ultimately matriculate as full-time students at any accredited college or university located in the United States. Scholarships will be awarded based on character, potential for success, academic achievement, participation in school activities and community service. 

Michelle Renee Bratton

Michelle Renee Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund Created to celebrate the life of Michelle Renee Bratton who tragically lost her life on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attacks. The Honigsbaum-Caplan-Bensley Fund The goal of the Honigsbaum-Caplan-Bensley Fund is to provide emergency assistance to high achieving individuals who have no other or limited sources of funds. It is the hope of the fund that once the recipients have achieved their educational and financial independence they will raise additional money for the fund or make donations to help self-perpetuate this fund.  To apply for this scholarship, CLICK HERE for application and following the submitting instructions within. 

The Carly Fund Created to celebrate the life of Carly Marie Sigelbaum who tragically lost her life on October 17, 2008 as a way to keep Carly’s love for others alive and vibrant. Chester Kiwanis Scholarship Fund Created by Chester Kiwanis for Chester Academy students. Grants will be awarded to college bound students who meet certain GPA, educational and other requirements.

David T. Cocks

David T. Cocks Walden Savings Bank Scholarship Fund The David T. Cocks Walden Savings Bank Scholarship Fund has been established to celebrate the life and honor the memory of David T. Cocks. On June 19, 2011, David T. Cocks, President of Walden Savings Bank, passed away suddenly. He was a man of great character, a devoted family man and friend to many, who truly made a difference in the lives of those he touched. Whether as President of Walden Savings Bank or in his many volunteer roles, he exemplified the definition of character and left a legacy of service and good work. This scholarship will be awarded to one student within the Bank’s Branch Territory. Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship Fund Created to celebrate the life of Scott F. Coen who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident. Edward C. Moulton, Jr. Cornwall Alumni Scholarship Fund Created by former Cornwall Mayor Edward Moulton to provide a scholarship to a graduating student of Cornwall High School who has by his or her conduct exemplified community services.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here  to downloand an application.  All applications are to be returned to your Guidance Department unless otherwise stated. 

NEW! Cornwall Central High School Scholar’s Fund Created by Cornwall native, Jim Duff, Class of 1966, to recognize three top scholars in the graduating class.  Beginning in June 2013, the overall top scholar in the graduating class, along with two separately identified students, who are the top math and science scholars, will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.  The focus will be on students who have challenged themselves with a rigorous class load and who have performed at the highest level of achievement.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here to download an application.  All applications are to be returned to your Guidance Department unless otherwise stated. 

Justin T. Dimino

The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by Justin’s family to honor and memorialize Justin who passed away suddenly on January 9, 2011 at the age of 16. Justin was in his junior year and was the starting defensive back for the Championship Crusader Football Team at Monroe-Woodbury High School at the time of his passing. Through The Justin T. Dimino Memorial Scholarship Fund a scholarship will be awarded annually, beginning in June 2012, the year Justin would have graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School. Corinne Feller Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by Corinne’s parents, Ron and Anita Feller, to celebrate the life of Corinne, who passed away at age 18 from ovarian cancer. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Valley Central High School of high moral character who will be attending an institution of higher learning, and who, like Corinne, was an active member of at least one interscholastic sports team through his/her senior year, demonstrated leadership skills, and actively advocates concern for the less fortunate. The FF (Firefighter) Thomas J. Foley Memorial Scholarship Fund Created to celebrate the life of Firefighter Tom Foley who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. This fund provides scholarships to dependent children of either active or retired FDNY firefighters or officers.

 

John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship Fund – Walden Savings Bank (WSB) Established by Walden Savings Bank and friends of John D. Garrison as a lasting tribute to the former President of Walden Savings Bank. This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors in both Valley Central High School and Wallkill High School to students who are of good character, exhibit community involvement, and be service-oriented who plan to study Business or Finance. FF Denis P. Germain

The FF (Firefighter) Denis P. Germain Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by the family of FF Denis P. Germain to honor the this 33 year-old New York City Firefighter with Ladder 2 who perished on September 11, 2001. Although he spent his working hours in the canyons of Mid-town Manhattan, he spent his free time in the winter on the ski slopes training high school racing teams and actively participated in an annual downhill race at Hunter Mountain for teams of firefighters. Susan Gunther

Oscar B. Greenleaf

Oscar B. Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund Created through a bequest, this fund will memorialize the name of Oscar B. Caitlin M. Hammaren Memorial Foundation and Arts Institute Fund Inspired by Caitlin’s love of the Arts and created following Caitlin’s senseless death on the morning of April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech, this Fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating student of Minisink High School and makes grants in the areas of arts education, culinary arts, and other cultural programs.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here to download an application.  All applications are to be returned to your Guidance Department unless otherwise stated. 

 

Keith B. Hayes Foundation Created by Keith’s family and many friends, this scholarship is awarded to students at Ramapo College of New Jersey who are afflicted with similar medical and physical challenges as Keith. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that conduct research related to muscular and skeletal myopathy, muscular dystrophy, as well as heart disease. Grants are also made to support Rockland Independent Living Center, The Wheel Chair Foundation, the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, and to research specific to Keith’s condition by the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.  To visit The Keith B. Hudson Valley Tuskegee Airmen Endowment Fund This Fund will distribute scholarships to outstanding graduating high school students throughout the region. Recipients will be selected through the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen.

Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz

 

The Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz Memorial Fund Grants from this fund are used to support nonprofit organizations. The fund also awards the Meyer & Lillian Jacobowitz Business Scholarship and the Dr. Morton I.  The Jodi’s Drive Scholarship Fund This Fund was established by family and friends of Jodi-Ann Denmead, a loveing wife and proud mother, dedicated community volunteer, and an avid sports fan who passed away in 2009 at the age of 47 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.  Jodi’s “drive” to make the world a better place through her support of many community initiatives will be celebrated and honored through the scholarships that will be awarded from this fund to graduating students of Warwick Valley High School.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor. Alison Klepper

Alison Klepper Memorial Fund Created by Fred and Mary Ann Klepper as a way to honor and celebrate their daughter Alison. In 2003, at just 23 years old, Alison was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. Alison was a talented artist and photographer as well as an accomplished skier, snowboarder, surfer and horsewoman. During her summer breaks from Warwick High School and Alfred University, she worked as a wrangler and trail guide on Montauk Long Island, New York. Alison also raised two seeing eye dogs. Alison faced adversity, namely bi-polar disorder, but she never gave up and always looked forward to her next challenge. Alison’s greatest talent was helping others in distress, both people and animals. NEW! Charlene Klieverik Memorial Scholarship Fund Established by the Goshen Science Olympiad Organization and Charlene’s husband Ron. The Goshen Science Olympiad Organization is a parent organization that actively supports the Science Olympiad Program, a national science competition in which Middle School and High School students within the Goshen Central School District compete in fields of science. In 2002, with the assistance of many others, Charlene played a major role in establishing The Goshen Science Olympiad Organization and a scholarship fund to provide scholarships to graduating Goshen High School students who have participated in Science Olympiad and are continuing their education. In 2004 the Goshen Science Olympiad Organization renamed the scholarship fund in her memory. Charlene’s dedication for her work as a teaching assistant at the Goshen Middle School and her tireless efforts on behalf of the Goshen Science Olympiad teams will be celebrated and remembered through this scholarship fund.  

 

Abraham and Judith and Jonathan R. Kopald Scholarship Fund Created by the Kopald family in memory of Abraham and Judith, and Jonathan R. Kopald, this fund awards a scholarship to one young man and one young woman at James I. Elissa Lippen/Matthew Helm Memorial Scholarship Fund Established as a component charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.  Originally created in 1995 in the Fallsburg School District as a legacy to honor and celebrate the lives of two close friends who lost their life together in a fire in 1995.  Elissa Lippen and Metthew Helm were childhood sweethearts who graduated from Fallsburg Central High School in June 1991.  This scholarship is available to graduating seniors at Fallsburg Central High School.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here to download an application.  All applications are to be returned to your Guidance Department unless otherwise stated.

NEW! The Richard G. McCoy Foundation The Richard G. McCoy Foundation has been established by his family and friends to celebrate the life and honor the memory of Richard G. McCoy, who passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2012.  Rich made a major commitment to the children of the Monroe, NY community and his passion for their personal growth and success was unrivaled.  Whether as a friend, coach, mentor or neighbor, he was always willing, and he was always there.  This fund is intended to celebrate those students who have given back to their community through volunteering and community service.  The fund will award scholarships to Monroe-Woodbury High School student/athletes who have made a strong commitment to community service, have displayed strong moral character and have met certain educational requirements.  

 

 

Spencer McLaughlin Fund Created by friends, family, and colleagues of Orange County Legislator Spencer McLaughlin in honor of his long-term commitment to community service in Orange County, this fund awards a scholarship at SUNY Orange annually.  Applications for the Spencer McLaughlin Scholarship may be picked up and returned to the Financial Aid Office, SUNY Orange, 115 South Street, Middletown, NY  10940 or online at www.sunyorange.edu/financialaid/scholarships.shtml

 

Middletown High School Academy of Finance (A of F)/Academy of Information Technology (A o IT) Scholarship Endowment Fund This fund will provide support to students attending the Academy of Finance and Academy of Information Technology.

 

Newburgh Enlarged City School District Fund This fund is an umbrella fund for anyone who has a charitable interest in establishing a scholarship and program fund that will provide support to students attending any school with the school district.

 

Jennifer Newton

Erin Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by the family and friends of Erin to honor and memorialize her.  Pine Bush Youth Soccer Club Fund Created to provide scholarships to seniors of Pine Bush Central School District who have participated in the Pine Bush Youth Soccer Club Program for at least one year in Grades K-12.

 

 

 

Michael Purcell Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by colleagues of Washingtonville teacher Mike Purcell who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Anthony C. Quinn

Anthony C. Quinn Memorial Fund Created by family and friends of Anthony C. Quinn, a beloved teacher, swim coach, and alumnus of the Warwick Valley High School who passed away tragically from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. NEW!David Racine Scholarship Fund Created following David Racine’s tragic death on December 27, 2011 as the result of a brain aneurysm.  At 25 years old, David was the only child of Patti and Tracy Racine.  Racine was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and had a passion for life, especially for football and Burke Catholic High School.  In 2002, when Burke Catholic High School started its first-ever- football team, David was a member of that team.  The team’s motto was “Family, Faith and Football.”  His love of football and his big heart inspired the Racines to establish The David Racine Scholarship Fundas a lasting way to honor David and to keep his memory alive and vibrant.  Through this Fund, scholarships will be awarded annually to a graduating student of Burke Catholic High School wo plays on the football team, is a leader, team player, and possesses the same characteristics and passion that David exhibited for faily, faith, football, and Burke Catholic High School.

 

 

 

Rescue 3 Fallen Heroes 9/11 Scholarship Fund Created by September 11th widows and family members in honor and memory of FDNY firefighters Thomas Foley, Thomas Gambino, Ray Meisenheimer, Christopher Blackwell, Don Regan, Gerry Schrang, and Joseph Spor who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This fund awards a scholarship to children of any Rescue 3 firefighter who are survivors of a qualified disaster, with special consideration given to children of firefighters who were assigned to Rescue 3 on September 11, 2001.

 

Dorothy Bronson Wicker Re Memorial Art Scholarship Fund Created in memory of this beloved artist, writer, teacher and historian by her daughter, Sandy Leonard, who is a board member of the Community Foundation. This fund will award a scholarship to a student with artistic talent graduating from Monroe-Woodbury High School.  

 

The Archie Stewart Rotary Scholarship Fund (Newburgh Rotary Club) Created to provide scholarships to students graduating from Newburgh Free Academy, applicants must display a high degree of good moral character and community involvement, and must demonstrate an interest in improving the greater Newburgh area following graduation from college in accordance with the wishes of the late Archie Stewart.  To apply for this scholarship, see your Guidance Counselor or click here to download an application.  All applications are to be returned to your Guidance Department unless otherwise stated. 

 

RJM Superstar Fund Created by the family and friends of Richard J. Mohl, a “superstar” of a teacher, to honor his life and legacy. This fund makes grants or awards to locally-based arts and education programs and projects or to students attending schools in the Bethel, CT public school system.

 

Rotary Club of Middletown Golden Gear Education Fund Created to provide awards to students attending an area high school or college who have overcome a significant obstacle in their life and who have demonstrated real progress in turning their life around.

 

NEW! Rotary Club of Walden Fund Created to provide educational awards, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and support other worthy community organizations. 

 

John Christopher Smith Scholarship Fund Created by the family of John Christopher Smith, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident, to celebrate John Christopher’s life and honor his memory. This fund is part of the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund. The E. Bash Soderlund and Barbara Soderlund (WUCM) Mentoring Fund Created by Sandra Soons, Vassar College Class of 1959, and Women’s University Club member to provide an annual mentoring grant to a woman 21 years of age or older returning to the classroom at SUNY Orange. This Fund was established to memorialize Sandra’s mother, E. Bash Soderlund, and her step-mother, Barbara Soderlund, both of whom attended the University of Nebraska.

 

Eldred School LogoNEW! The Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund Recently created within the Community Foundation to award scholarships to graduating seniors of the Eldred Central School District who plan to continue their education in a medical field. This fund was established in honor of Sheila Birkett, who donated her kidney to Joshua Glantz, a Social Studies teacher at Eldred High School.  “In my recent medical distress, I met many excellent and caring medical professionals.  I would like to honor Shelia’s gift, a gift that has allowed me to keep teaching and working with students, by helping our children pursue a medical career to assist others” says fund representative Joshua Glantz. The Isaac and Ruthe Silberman Legal Profession Scholarship Fund/The Herbert J. Avrutis and Ruthe Silberman Medical Scholarship Fund Created through a bequest, this scholarship fund will provide tuition assistance to Monticello High School students involved in the district’s “College in the Classroom” Program.

Joshua Stamm Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by his family and friends to memorialize Joshua who was an Eagle Scout with Troop 63 in Goshen, a member of the 105th Air National Guard’s Young Champions, an avid skier, music fan and baseball player. Joshua participated in countless wheelchair road races, including several Orange Classics and The Special Olympics at West Point. A scholarship is awarded annually to the Goshen High School graduating student who demonstrates qualities of determination, caring, compassion, and an independent spirit, and who, despite a disability, was able to excel and will attend college. Taravella Scholarship Fund Created to celebrate the life of beloved teacher and Coach Jim Taravella, a Monroe-Woodbury teacher who passed away suddenly, the criteria for this scholarship will be finalized when the fund is fully funded.

 Jane Unhjem Memorial Scholarship Fund Created to celebrate the life of this vibrant educator, wife, mother, daughter, and esteemed community leader who passed away on August 19, 2012 from injuries sustained in the crash of a small airplane.  Established by her loving husband and college sweetheart, Erik, this fund will provide scholarships to graduating Goshen High School students who wish to study abroad.  Jane’s love of life, her infectious energy, believer in education, passion for the work of the Goshen Rotary Club and international exchange program for students from around the world, and work as a passionate advocate for the music and arts programs as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Development in the Goshen Central School District, will be celebrated and remembered through this scholarship fund.

Wallkill East Rotary Scholarship Fund Created to provide awards to students who live in the Town of Wallkill, have an expectation of succeeding in life, and plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or technical school in the United States.

 

Blake and Dorothy Washington Scholarship Fund Established through the will of Dorothy Washington this fund provides scholarships to graduating students at Monticello High School who plan to pursue studies at a recognized institute of higher learning and exhibit attributes of scholastic achievement, character, integrity and industriousness. Washingtonville 5 World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial Scholarship Fund Created by family, friends, neighbors, and fellow firefighters, this scholarship fund was established to honor the five FDNY firefighters who lived in Washingtonville (Dennis Devlin, Glenn Perry, Mark Whitford, Gerald Nevins, and Robert Hamilton) who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The Michael Ryan Zodda Foundation

The Michael Ryan Zodda Foundation was created to honor and memorialize Michael Zodda who passed away on July 2, 2010, at the tender age of 25. A new educational center in Amy Bull Crist’s name would be used for visiting school groups, hands on teaching, adult workshops and lectures, a gift shop, and ticket sales.  

 

The Harold and Carol Levine Memorial Fund for the benefit of Orange County Land Trust Created by the estate of Harold Levine, this fund will make an annual grant to the Orange County Land Trust.

The Jacques and Florence Levine Charitable Fund Created by Jacques Levine, in honor and memory of his late wife Florence, this fund will make an annual grant to the Orange County Land Trust and is a sub-fund of the Orange County Land Trust Endowment Fund.

John Mazur Endowment Fund for the benefit of the Orange County Arboretum/Ruth & Jim Ottaway Education Center Created by an anonymous donor in honor and memory of her husband for the creation, maintenance and continuation of gardens and arboretum-related projects.

City School District’s basketball program (modified, junior varsity and
varsity) for costs above and beyond the district’s basketball program budget

Newburgh Illuminated Fund This group is sponsored by the City of Newburgh and its purpose is to host a celebration of the history and people of Newburgh NY for the purpose of highlighting the assets and achievements of the City of Newburgh.  The 2014 Newburgh Illuminated Festival is an event designed to bring City residents together in celebration, to ‘illuminate’ and market the great assets of the City, to bring new people into the city, thus resulting in increased tourism, new business and positive regional perception.

Military Appreciation Day Fund Created by concerned citizens as a vehicle to which the wider community may contribute. The Fund will provide support for “Military Appreciation Day,” a community-wide day of complimentary activities, food, music and fun for local military personnel and their families.

 

NEW! Richie Reynolds Memorial Foundation (Project Fund) The purpose of this Project is to raise funds to erect a statue in the Village of Montgomery to memorialize Richie Reynolds, who was an endeared member of the community.  The Richie Reynolds Memorial Fund Advisory Group plans to fundraise for the statue.  Statue will be located in a prominent and visible area of the Village of Montgomery.  A community notice monument sign will also be erected nearby to display community activities and information.  

Roger Ferris

Roger Ferris Agricultural Fund Created by Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Ferris in honor and memory of her late husband, Roger. Roger Ferris, a lifetime resident of Orange County, an Orange County Business Owner, and a longtime member of the NYS Association of Land Surveyors, was a well respected and regarded surveyor by both his clients, and Orange County Farmers who would often seek his advice. He was a trustworthy surveyor who subdivided Orange County farm land in the most responsible and respectful of ways. Roger loved the outdoors and wanted to keep it protected therefore, this fund will provide grants to The Orange County Land Trust in support of annual lectures that support local farms, agricultural distribution and industries, and/or the protection of agricultural land.  

Graham M. Skea Endowment Fund for the benefit of the Orange County Arboretum/Ruth & Jim Ottaway Education Center Established by retiring Orange County Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Graham M. Skea in 2005 to support the Orange County Arboretum.

The September 11th Anniversary Benefit Fund This fund will provide grants to the Washingtonville 5 World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial Scholarship Fund, the FDNY VFW, and the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.

The Irma Schwinger DeAngele Fund Established “to forever celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, a German immigrant who settled in the Hudson Valley in 1950. Despite many personal trials, through hard work, determination, and selflessness she always put her family, friends, and others foremost in her mind and in her actions. Her death on January 20, 2010 was not an ending, but through this fund, a continuance of her thoughtfulness for and generosity to others.” This fund will provide grants to local nonprofit organizations.

Deerpark Heritage Fund Created by Willard and his wife, former board member Norma Schadt, to support art, music, history, and cultural programs in the Town of Deerpark that are offered or sponsored by the Town of Deerpark Museum.

Empire State Bank Charitable Trust Fund Created by trustees of Empire State Bank as a way to ‘give back to their community’ through grants distributed on a regular basis to a wide variety of local nonprofits throughout our area.  Please contact Empire State Bank at 845-561-0003 to learn more about the grants.

Corinne Feller Memorial Fund Created to honor and memorialize Corinne Feller, this fund focuses on putting on events to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, and provides grants to organizations that conduct research focused on finding a cure for the disease.

FF Thomas J. Foley Memorial Foundation Created to celebrate the life of Firefighter Tom Foley who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. This fund will provide grants to nonprofit organizations.

Forgotten Women and Children’s Relief Fund Created by the Schlossberg family to provide grants to nonprofit organizations that support projects, plans and programs which focus on educational, vocational and health services for women and children.

Bud & Ruth Kassel Fund Created by the first President of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation, Ruth Kassel, and her husband Bud to provide grants to local nonprofit organizations.

Kidz4Causes FundThe Kidz4Causes Fund, recently established within the Community Foundation, is a group of high school students and young adults who find ways to give back by fundraising for various charitable causes. Through their efforts Kidz4Causes is cultivating the next generation of philanthropists. The vision of Kidz4Causes is to make the world a better place by educating others about issues that affect children globally, and supporting nonprofit organizations that address those issues.

The Richard P. O’Beirne Memorial Foundation This fund was established by family and friends to honor and memorialize the late Richard P. O’Beirne, businessman and philanthropist who left a local legacy. Through this fund, grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations that advance humanitarian need and economic growth in the Hudson Valley.

 

The Robert Rowell Foundation In 1994, Bobby was a dynamic, energetic teenager when a diving accident left him quadriplegic.  Through many difficult situations related to his condition Bobby always remained brave, positive, loving and spirited.  His dog, Harley, a companion dog from Canine for Companions, was always by his side.  Bobby lost his battle as a young adult due to medical complications but it was not without leaving a tremendous impact on all who knew him.  His courage, love of family and friends and his spirited personality will never be forgotten.  The Robert Rowell Foundation was created by family and friends of Bobby to honor his life and legacy by providing grants to nonprofit organizations.

The Lieutenant Gregg Atlas Foundation Created to honor and celebrate the life of Lieutenant Gregg Atlas, a New York City Firefigher, who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attacks, this fund will provide grants to nonprofit organizations that support programs for adults with autism.

 

New!Congregation Ahavath Israel Perpetual Care Fund Created to provide for the maintenance, repair and restoration of monuments, headstones and grave markers of historical or architectural significance to the community, and focusing on areas open to the public or to the public’s view.  

The Gertrude and Scott Dropkin AIDS Treatment & Care Fund Created in honor and in memory of Gertrude and Scott Dropkin, this fund will make grants to nonprofit agencies that provide care and treatment to those afflicted with AIDS.

Entertainment Properties Trust/Empire Resorts Fund This fund was established for the purpose of providing grants to nonprofit organizations that offer assistance to individuals and other nonprofits located in Sullivan County, that suffer damage or injury or are otherwise in distress due to natural causes such as flood, hurricane, tornado, earthquake and the like.

The Fund for Senior Services This fund will provide grants to local nonprofit organizations that promote health and quality of life for senior citizens.

Gerry Health Services Fund This fund will make grants to nonprofit agencies that provide medical or health services.

Ronald I. Jacobowitz Health/Educational Fund Created by Gerald N. Jacobowitz in memory of his son Ronald, this fund’s primary purpose is to provide grants for medical or health services, and/or educational programs.

The Jacobowitz Family Charitable Trust This fund provides an annual grant to the Community Foundation and to local nonprofit organizations that provide medical or health services or educational programs.

The Lake Foundation Created by Michael and Christine Lake, this fund will provide grants to nonprofit organizations that serve battered women, abused children, and disabled veterans.

The Mike Levine Journalism Education Fund The Mike Levine Journalism Education Fund has been established to honor and memorialize Mike Levine, the beloved late executive editor and columnist of the Times Herald-Record. The Fund will support an annual writing workshop to help young journalists pursue “the news of the day with the compassion and craft that became the hallmark of Mike’s work.”

The Kathy McMichael Memorial Foundation Created by friends and colleagues, this fund was created to honor a devoted colleague, mother, daughter, sister, and loyal friend who was a teacher’s assistant at Sullivan County BOCES for six years and passed away in May 2008 at the age of 41 after a long battle with breast cancer. Grants from this fund will be facilitated through the United Way of Sullivan County to families affected by catastrophic illness.

The Gerry Nevins Foundation (Fund) Created in honor and memory of Gerry Nevins,will provide grants for housing support on behalf of widows/widowers of a recently deceased spouse who live in Orange or Rockland Counties and have dependent children under age 21. 

Sullivan County Bicentennial Fund Created as a pass-through fund to accept charitable donations for the over 100 pride-filled bicentennial programs and events that took place in 2009 throughout Sullivan County.

Stoddard, a good friend, and firm believer, in the work of Sullivan Renaissance.  As a long-time judge of Sullivan Renaissance projects, he shared his talents and expertise in the areas of architecture, landscape design, and community beautification.  This fund will make grants for beautification and community revitalization projects in Sullivan County.
